ALCEA ROSEA
"BRILLIANT-WHITE" DOUBLE HOLLYHOCKS

Though most folks associate the Hollyhock with Victorian Cottage Gardens, this exotic bloom has a fascinating History dating as far back as 50,000 years to a Neanderthal burial site!

Considered sacred, 'Holly'hock is linked to the 'Holy' Land and The Knight's Crusaders (who named it for its healing properties), as well as, Japanese Shogun's and Tutor Royalty, just to name a few. In fact the use of this flower in non-traditional Cottage Gardens may have been the first time Hollyhocks were ever used by non-priest or grown outside of sanctioned royal gardens!

Now you can add this easy to grow royal beauty with its stately 6-8' stalks and large double skirted brilliant-white blooms as a backdrop for your Cottage, Goth or Night Garden! Mix with  Black Hollyhocks to create a Black & White garden or add several colors to create a bold privacy wall splashed in color! Also see: Rare Wine Hollyhocks and  Pink Hollyhocks and the beautiful Sacred Collections Hollyhocks, a mix containing with all flavors.

Flowers, seeds, roots and leaves of Hollyhock are all edible! The blooms have been used as culinary decoration for centuries. The leaves can be used in the same manner you would use spinach leaves, raw, cooked or baked. The seeds can be eaten raw or added to salads. And the roots were used for medicinal cures.

The mother loved them years ago;
Beside the fence they used to grow,
And though the garden changed each year
And certain blooms would disappear
To give their places in the ground
To something new that mother found,
Some pretty bloom or rosebush rare --
The hollyhocks were always there . . .Edgar A Guest
